FAQ
WHAT IS FOSTERING?
When you foster you open your heart and home to a dog in need. You temporarily care for the dog's daily needs and help prepare them to be adopted into their furever home.
WHAT DOES THE RESCUE PROVIDE FOR FOSTERS?
Semper Fi Legacy Rescue will provide veterinary care, food, treats, crate, bedding, toys, puppy pee pads, etc. If there are others needs just ask and Semper Fi Legacy will do what we can to provide.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF FOSTERS?
The goal is for fosters to assist with decompression (a couple weeks of calm to relieve stress), help the dog feel safe, remember what it is to feel loved, and prepare them to be adopted into their furever home. There will be many cases where a foster will need medication to be administered to them or may have training that needs to be done. As a foster you will come to know the animal best and so we will ask for you to write a bio for a foster animal so that we may best determining what will be a good furever home for your foster animal.
WHAT IS DECOMPRESSION?
The shelter is a very stressful place. When a dog is taken put of the shelter and put into a foster home they need a couple weeks of calm to relieve some stress. It is best to give the foster a quiet and comfortable space that is their own. Avoid meeting new animals or people. Too much change could cause stress, which may express itself in the form of poor behavior or reactivity. We of course want to avoid that, so that is why the decompression period is so important.
HOW DO YOU BECOME A FOSTER?
We have a foster application for you to fill out. Then one of our rescue representatives will contact you with any clarifying questions they may have and answer any questions that you may have. Upon approval of the application we find an animal in need that will be the right fit for your family and lifestyle.
